Title of the Good Practice

Spazio M@mm@ (M@mm@ space)

Summary of the good practice

M@mm@ space is a cheerful, warm, comfortable and safe place, suitable for mothers and children, adjacent to the room that houses a Marghera Digitale internet center, opened January 15, 2015.

It is furnished with toys from recycling, feeding chair, nappy changing accessories and above all with a computer to surf the internet safely while the children play.

The idea came from an analysis of center's frequencies data which showed a low presence of women, reflecting the general data on the digital divide.

Women who, for commitments to family care, so far have not been able to take courses in the center have now, with the additional small fee, the opportunity to attend classes carrying the children who can stay with a babysitter in m@mm@ space.

The initiative is complemented by the programming of courses dedicated to mothers on topics ranging from the sites to play or for study, to navigate safely in the network and in social networks

The Marghera Digital Internet Center, opened in 2007, is one of seven Internet centers activated by the City of Venice in recent years. The center, run by lecalamite, with the main aim to spread the use of new technologies in social groups (women, elderly people, foreign nationals) who are still excluded from their use, help to reduce the digital divide to reduce the risk of social exclusion.
